Brunch With Bernie – January 10, 2014

Marvin here I have a new book out it’s
called the crash a 20-16 available last 30-plus years we’ve seen
this concerted effort politically economically intellectually to remake the United
States in the image these very very wealthy economic
royalists tomorrow franklin roosevelt’s praise thus my book the crash in 2016 a plot to
destroy America what we can do about it which is available in all fine
bookstores now you can find out what is the crash in 2016 why that year what is the role as conspiracy what we
do to stop it what happens the United States after 2016 and in the book is my letter to my
great-grandchildren when I want them to know because previous crashes have given us
this country and Norris opportunity to progress revolutionary war goes democratic
self-government the Civil War put an end to slavery greater pressure were to built the
American middle class so there’s good news here we’ve done this before we’ve gotten
better because these crashes the crasher 2016 I’m carbon here on the news you need to know
this while the meeting was focused on chris
Christie in reeducate congressman closer to accepting a massive international trade agreement and
Thursday a bipartisan group of US senators propose legislation to give the
Obama administration the power to fast-track the trans-pacific partnership and other controversial trade deals
White House welcome the fast-track proposal and issued a statement saying we need to use every tool we have to
knock down trade barriers this legislation passes the president
could push through the TPP and other deals in congress and only get
an opportune vote on whether or not to approve them TPP is the largest to these proposed
deals as it includes the US and 11 Pacific Rim nations in nearly
all its provisions have been negotiated in secret the fuel leak sections the TPP
expose the danger Street deal to our jobs our environment
are civil rights and even our national sovereignty its massive trade agreement would even
allow mega corporations to challenge US laws that stand in the way up there
unending greed we don’t need free trade which drives
down wages and cents more American jobs overseas we need pear tree and we certainly don’t need to give
corporations any more power to put profits over people Congress should never give up their
power to debate and Amanda trade agreement and must stop the
trans-pacific partnership from destroying our jobs are civil rights in our national
sovereignty inscrit news republicans in Missouri began the new legislative year
with a bang as in starting the year off focusing on
new jobs are boosting their economy right-wing lawmakers in that state are
fighting to pass right to work for less legislation spite fact the governor jay Nixon has
promised to veto the bill if it passes Republican House Speaker Tim Jones is
pushing for the in tight labor legislation for years Missouri Republican Party has
been advocating so-called right to work bills like those recently passed in
Indiana Michigan workers in states which have been enacted the right to work for less laws
seen their yearly wages declined by an average of fifteen hundred dollars per
worker and their health benefits and pensions
get slashed these bills do nothing but benefit big business and destroy unions the voters in Missouri need to make it
clear that they will not accept any right to work for less laws from their
legislators in the best to the rest to the news the
governor of New York has made a big commitment to renewable energy on Wednesday Governor Andrew Cuomo

bare metal group who prefer the EPA where all fracking wells to report their

of these companies will finally have to reveal a toxic makeup their fracking sludge and finally Australia’s national science
agency has apologised seven-year-old girl named Sophie feeling
to make her a fire-breathing dragon Sophie ask your parents for a pet dragon
Christmas was told that such if it was possible she wrote a letter to
the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation ask scientists they could make her flying
dragon she wrote that she would name the dragon
tooth was suppose girl left from the dragon famous book series where
Stewart if it was a boy after her father site itself issued a great formal
apology saying we miss something in the past eighty
seven years we have not been able to create a dragon or dragon heads story didn’t end there
however as the scientists said so your very own dragon made from titanium
on a 3d printer enough liar breathe fire but they said
considered up all on it so people can’t that’s the way it is today Friday
January 10 2014 and Thom Hartmann on the news I’m you’re listening to with Tom Hartman
program and greetings my friends Patriots lovers
up democracy true and justice believers and peace
freedom and the American Way Thom Hartmann here with you and welcome
to our program it is Friday so of course the the first
our program every Friday years let me and I think I was america’s
senator although proud citizens over Mater very pleased
to have him as their senator senator Bernie Sanders Oh with who and
Bernie will be taking your calls right after our or brief conversation
here about the issues the day senator welcome to the program great to be with the top great to have
you so well what’s what’s on your agenda bothers a whole lot of stuff going on
and let me just briefly go through a few tissues arm
their use thrashing discussion now about the war
on poverty because who was well fifty years ago all exactly fifty years ago harder than
the Johnson announced it is war on poverty are and I think I’ll we
take for granted today so much that was in the
legislation that followed his speech are that week sometimes I think forget about the important of some other legislation where transcended is provide health insurance to all seniors as a guaranteed right to
medicare and medicare today is an extremely
popular needless to say extremely important program to provide
quality health insurance prescription drugs what millions and
millions seems that was part of the war on poverty a medicaid was part of the war on
poverty well medicaid continues to struggle with
lower reimbursement rates then Jude it has been a lifeline for 10 intense I recall the seventy-million our children and working people
lower-income people hope before medicated no place to turn
when they needed to go to the doctor with an atypical hospital to medicate provide bacteria all the war on poverty plot for footsteps
again we take food stamps for granted today and we debate how much
we should be spending up without with a declaration by Johnson
on the congress also fifty years ago that nobody in america
should go hungry kind that was not always the case and we
have a long way to go but the fact that right now week provide assistance to
people when they otherwise would be hungry as
nothing to minimized are the older americans act
put forth a concept I’m sorry the war on poverty 44 the concept of community health center
programs from the coach I’ve been very active have that now provides primary health
care and dental care low-cost prescription drugs are mental
health counseling to somewhere around 24 million Americans
in every state in this country so when you see a community health center understand that I Dr a terminated from the war on party the older americans act and the
meals-on-wheels program supports community support for are senior centers all over
the country came from the war or public so the bottom line here is that in my view are the war on poverty has
been very very successful in protecting the
lives for the well-being of tens and tens and tens of millions of
Americans can we do better absolutely gorgeous some programs which
should be approved no question about it but what we should not forget is that
when the war on poverty was initiated in the mid 1960s the economy was a
fairly strong and get at that point the poverty rate
was nineteen and a half percent today as a result of the wall street
collapse the economy is not strong and your party
is at fifteen percent much higher Senate much higher than we wanted to be but
less than it was r1 the program was initiated in the
1960s and what economists tell us party rate today
without the war on poverty programs would be a 29
percent bob dole last week I would make on that
issue is that if we look at what we have done
as a nation compared to many other countries in Europe
scandinavia we should appreciate that we have to get a long way to go poverty rate for
children in this country twenty one and a half percent much oil then other countries around the
world at the highest in the industrialized world in terms of maternity leave are in the
car to benefit you get when you having a baby we are far behind most of the rest of the world herbs retirement
benefits we are behind many other countries so in terms of establishing a strong safety net for vulnerable people
the war on poverty to cause a significant step forward & Johnson deserves a lot of credit for
that I know you know that as a president to use
much-maligned for the war on vietnam but people I think forget
about the enormously important role he played in pushing using his
legislative skills as a president form a majority leader
getting that legislation our past which is improving the lives of
millions and millions and millions of people top that is orel partisan issue I think
you’re going to be hearing a lot about in the coming weeks all other issue out
there are obviously is are the issue of expending are emergency unemployment
benefits of 41.3 are million americans love just lost those benefits at the end of the
year are the issue here is that are while the unemployment numbers are going down
slowly real unemployment today remains a
thirteen-percent are many states in the country word is
much higher than that long-term unemployment is very very very
high fact that is higher than it has been I
believe in the last 50 years and that means that people who lose their jobs all CRR remaining on employed for six months
or longer at far higher levels that we have seen for a very long time now the politics of
this business is that when bush was president we expended are unemployment benefits
for the long-term unemployed are pushing republicans about point did
not for of are they understood that we had
an emergency situation and they voted appropriately are now that Obama is President suddenly
they want or set on many view of stuff but they are looking
at all very very bad Officer TSO to help are protect the families of long-term unemployed are
they want to cut health care benefits are or they’re interested in bringing
forward eighty told pipeline or or some other a
piece of legislation which has nothing to do with the issue at hand so we’re going to focus on that it’s
very imperative are that we passed an extension company’s
long-term unemployed benefits our behalf of 1.3 million workers and
their families it’s also important to the economy
because of these folks don’t happen in the average about that they get is all three hundred dollars a week but
have three hundred dollars is life and death to whole lot of folks
if they don’t have the money to spend the economist possible those
approximately 200,000 jobs rngd people to climb in the coming year
by about 22 percent so this is an issue that will be was
discussed %uh last week are it will be back in
discussion are again next week another issue that I
know many people are concerned about is the swabs trans-pacific partnership a
so-called RTT PPP and the issue of a fast track on that I am very very strongly opposed to fast-track have with fast track means is that
members of congress cannot provide amendments cannot improve the legislation are that
comes to us and it’s an expedited process to get
this thing past are problem as you and i have discussed for many many years our trade policy in this country whether its NAFTA CAFTA
permanent normal trade relations with China has kind of led to a race to the bottom
american workers are forced to compete with desperate
people all over the world what are the trade partners are they PPP
would be vietnam what the minimum wage there’s 28 cents an hour I am Not sure that it is in the best interest of
american workers to compete be competing against people to make all of 28 cents and how so I
think the we gotta focus on are I am NOT
sympathetic to it might certainly not to the public off to a
fast track proposal which slight senator Bernie Sanders versus our
brunch with Bernie our your calls for senator Bernie Sanders
coming up next Europe how hard program and be sure
to check out bernie’s website Sanders dot center dot cotton example bernie buzz it’s used this is the Thom Hartmann program also
it Sanders dot center dot got you’ll find a the news of the day great news
aggregation site lot of work to project will be and welcome back and Hall in South Lyon Michigan watching free
speech TV on the dish TV satellite network you’re on the air
sander Sanders yes thanks for your service to our country senator I keep our the Republic the republicans
led by Ayn Rand Paul take money from the government is a
disservice to people and that’s a quote so let’s stop doing a
disservice to the republicans and cut off the government paychecks
further do nothing jobs if I’m an economist can you pass along some
economic facts are paying unemployment benefits and
raising the minimum wage pay for themselves in increased economic
activity the three-month extension unemployment
benefits costs roughly five billion dollars this its ten billion dollars to the
economy from the economic multiplier effect which is a well-known economic
fact and when the when the government
collects taxes on this ten billion dollars in economic activity because it adds up to four billion
dollars in the first year in the following years the government
makes a profit by by helping unemployment benefits
through increased taxes in the long term but the republicans are to economic
illiteracy and shortsighted to see this well thank you very much I agree with
with what you said investing in people ha in the long run is cost-effective it’s
humane obviously it eases suffering a match in somebody who’s 50
or 55 years of age who’s out there month after month are
desperately looking for work and now they’re unemployment stops what happens to them
and their families are sophomore a human point of view it’s the
right thing to do but but point the pair was making are trying
to make a moment ago is that when these folks have to three
hundred dollars a week on average they spend their spending in their
communities and in doing that they create jobs
without that money the economist post that we
would lose about 200,000 jobs a year and see the crime in our GDP per by 22.2
appoint the polls making I can terms the minimum wage index same
principle are one way that we could actually cut
the deficit when we raise the minimum wage you stop
subsidizing companies like wal-mart or Burger King or
McDonalds who pay a very often the federal minimum
wage which is seven and a quarter hour or
maybe just a little bit more for that and what happens when you have
working people macdonalds or that barbour became or
other fast-food restaurant how they survive well in
order to survive when you’re earning those low wages you need to get medicaid are you need to
get our food stamps are you need to get
government subsidized housing and they need all these federal
taxpayer-supported programs because their employers are paying them
starvation wages and appoint the pair was making which is an absolute White
Point is if you raise the minimum wage and the
government doesn’t have to provide those services are if you expend unemployment benefits are it ends up paying for itself are
with economic multiplier so point is my view absolutely correct
these guys obviously know this cuz they extended these things during the bush
administration could it be that they’re just try to crash the car makers Obama’s
president well I think what it is secure seen are in the last several
years real movement our total right on the
part of the republican party and that is being pushed heavily by
folks like the Koch brothers probably an hour are campaign contributors so you think so many
villages dancing tonight on the break ok part we’ll be right back is
20 minutes past the hour hearing Tom Hartman program it’s our brunch with Bernie our senator
Bernie Sanders to were closed this portion the John Hartman program is underwritten in part by carbon I dot com
stamps dot com and edison factor duck well the last points for his spare is not an option get out there get
active the Thom Hartmann program is our brunch
with Bernie are in senator we were just talking a moment ago but unemployment
insurance and how the multiplier effect arm basically when you when you payout
on employment insurance at really doesn’t cause the government
anything because it stimulates the economy and and I point out that the republicans
when bush was president the seem to understand this cuz they
passed it over and over and over again could it be that you know is that
ideology years at partisanship could it be that they’re actually trying to hurt
the economy in order hurt the bush the Obama admin site they could maybe a
little bit of both but it’s certainly ideological in the sense that the
republicans have now moved much further to the right person where
they were in previous years and when you’re all led by people like the Koch brothers and others who
believe absolutely are that programs like Social Security medicare
medicaid are the Environmental Protection Agency
the concept of the minimum wage or through all these programs should
either be eliminated completely I privatized or significantly cut are then you are
living in a different world than we were a few years ago so clear of folks out there
who believe that the idea of unemployment insurance itself is not a
good idea let alone extend the couple you have the
republican party now dominated by billionaire interest
right-wing interest who have a very different world in terms
of what government should be doing that was the case five or even 10 years to come okay
Walter in Tempe Arizona you’re on the air centers Walter %uh up maybe Walter has his phone on mute
are understanding thank you for so much that
you do for almost sworn in how is it that
everyone I speak with the liberals or conservatives going on between all what money out of politics yes not here we have the politicians talking
about actually for probably change that well
water let me talk about it is one politician who does talk about and I i
think that the crime nope are perfect flood of money the the the torrential flood of money into politics today is undermining the
very foundations of american democracy so when we talk
about any issue that after you talk about
health care to talk about education talk about the economy you talk about climate
change talk about 13 software enables haitians
all of which are enormously important what is even more important in terms of
the political process is the wall that money is playing in politics today that spotted are years
ago but it was certainly it’s always been a factor up but
citizens this disastrous citizens united Supreme
Court decision for three years ago just completely open the floodgates
money and now what we’re looking at in american politics today is you can
have tens of millions of people feel strongly
about an issue and then you got on the other side of
that issue a half a billion their families who are able to are provided huge
financial support to the candidates that represent their
interests are these very same a individuals are
able to open up our love these think tanks all media are play a all where way way way out of proportion to
their numbers and I’ll just like to give you a dozen examples because you want every poll that I have
seen says that the american people where they
are democrats whether they’re republicans
whether their independence with their professors whether the concert you know what they
do not want to see social security card they don’t wanna Medicare card they
don’t wanna see medicaid cut and you know what by the way many others
people want to see the wealthiest people largest corporations pay more in taxes
that’s what the American people belief then you go
to capitol hill you see also different dynamics which
has being created by billionaires and white
man think tanks and their lobbyists and that
dynamic is all of course we have to cut Social
Security and Medicare and Medicaid all of course we have to protect all the
loopholes their corporations receive one out of
four which the power play any federal taxes at all that the the a that’s the logic within Washington and inside the beltway and yet the world looks very very
different outside-the-beltway and that is precisely because of money
in politics it is spared it is getting worse billionaires Citadel
literally federal miss it oil cool with the support gonna put hundreds
of millions of dollars into so unless we get a handle on that a pie
overturning our citizens united and be by moving to
public funding of Elections are democracy in this
country is on the real severe attack right now we can to be
into we do a right yeah cannons Silver City New Mexico the
CK BQ you’re on the air senator Sanders think senator com question your I want
to find out about reversing privatization arm Tom always read about how these the NSA
should not be privatized are and a few other things well if you
take all the people that are privatized now are in the government with the NSA with
the difference with the be all the rest a bit and I think the later before the that a
storm was making two hundred thousand dollars a year if you took those we persist and make
government jobs at six to seven thousand dollars your you could had three people for everyone
edwidge know that you can rehire the ad was no cross no to arm you don’t have to go back to
Congress for nickel the job easier are cutting up contracts
if they don’t have any problems as for their first putting a contract
for unions and all the rest to these things why can’t you call we privatize and go
back to making government government jobs you sell these private
jobs farm and that if you took a look at all
them well with with one person that mercury can we just put paper in a break here
thanks for the question good question and when you were speaking something came into my mind I I was
remembering I was in Afghanistan a few years ago are and we were in no what are these
sick heavy-duty security vehicles and with you guys bubble ProPublica the
outbreak will pick it up after the break and this is this is a great app arm it is our brunch with Bernie are
senator Bernie Sanders taking your calls her on the time her program
your opportunity to participate in our national City Hall held every week right here on this
program senator bryan said you’re listening to the Thom Hartmann
program call 866 987 thon and he should check out brings

January 10 2014 and Thom Hartmann on the news I’m back-channel valujet much money are
generally seen as on the line taking your calls and
senator Sanders we were we were on topic just as we hit the brake whitewater talked about the need to
prefer privatization and I largely agree with
him and I was mentioning the but I was in
Afghanistan a few years ago I was are being driven around in couple are by your two guys mom was driving and was
apparent see karenga automatic for rifle and one guy was in the US military and the other guy
was a private contractor they were both doing exactly the same
work one was being paid are about to Walters point significantly more than the other guy
and using that all for are governmental programs agencies where the private sector people in many
cases are being paid a lot more to people all who work for the united states
government so I think his point is that we can save a lot of money and in some ways improve
the quality of our services i think is right judy in Hot Springs
Village Arkansas you’re on your senator Sanders both understand and follow me enough
speaker here a senator Sanders thanks for taking my
call I I have received a reply from Sir Tom
Bergeron john Boozman of Arkansas regarding
country of origin labelling I E came back in the refer to this as an
agreement under the TTL call that cool see lol said that we have
tried that that we subsequently were saved by
Canada and Mexico because they determine their products would
received less favorable status to US consumers this this tells me that US consumers preferred to buy american
and don’t think it’s fair trade agreement
that allows not only one country two to another I but hinders consumers from knowing the country of origin and
prevents us from buying US-made good a the firm food or whatever which will stimulate
job growth here cutie I think you’re you’re exactly
right I think home people have a right to know sing pretty elemental that people have a
right to know where the product are that they are
purchasing is made are they have a right to know because
season some cases safer for agricultural
product they feel a lot more confident about regulation to the united states
that in maybe Mexico tried or someplace else
they want good quality food are but that’s another product arm they
also are interested in stimulating their own
economy making sure that people in our own country have decent paying
jobs two people have a right to have that information well are
certainly think that they could a pedicure touching on now these trade
agreements that in a dozen different ways that big
just one part of the concert are make it harder and
harder for people are in a are in a country are to have
the kind of protections that they should be are entitled to arm soul a your concert i think is
legitimate and that is why I have been very strong
week a in opposition a to these trade
agreements to come down the pike Wayne in Chicago you’re on the air
center centers the letter to speaker phone okay yes
grafton room up but is not a good actor known for
roles 1.3 million people withdrawn on the boss part a republican
where every few quick spin on employment insurance
brothers were make another comment arm how is it there Democratic president
would push for trade deal there’s an absolute disaster for their it doesn’t make any sense are their something better Republic you
would do I’m a seems like this prestigious wants
to do anything just so long as I make a deal it doesn’t
matter if our backs they’re American people in the back as long as I make a deal to let me just
say this: here is my prediction if the democrats
dole standoff is star haven’t responded or worse why I think that guy was duval patrick at
the democratic convention will certainly need to stand up and have
a spine they’re gonna move the Senate and they’re also gonna lose the house in 2016 now we get back to unemployment arm well i want to ask the senator is is there a legal way if the republicans
in the house defeat the unemployment insurance if it
passes the Senate personal call his beer part 2 legal maneuvers to
ensure that these unemployed people can get their money lying up and listen well
i I would use the word legal where political maneuvers for one could
use if one place is a very very high priority on expanding on a point about
what some say to the republicans but you know what
we’re going home police benefits are extended and if you
want AB and C you are not gonna get it until we have these benefits that’s the
way you can are we can prevail on the I we’ve gotta
make them an offer that they can’t refuse with rally the american people
and legislatively we’ve got to put this on legislation
which must be passed also that the after the to that question are you in terms of the politics of this
whole business and and democrats having a spine all wait I
agree with you I mean I’ve been saying this for years
you have had a segment of the democratic party think that success is becoming what we
call republican-like are and that is trying to emulate
Republican stopping the far to the right clearly up but just you
know trying to the develop some kind of mushy ground with
their pro-business occasionally they pay attention to working families are I just link that if they maintain that policy are and if they don’t begin to standoff
forcefully and clearly for working families in this
country at a time when the middle class is
disappearing we have more people living in poverty than any time in the history of america
if they are not prepared to take on the big money interests quite
so much economic and political power I agree with you I think the American
people will sit there and say what’s the difference why do I have to why should I even
bother to vote it was about to both parties are working against my interests are the
plane makes a very important point on that and that he talks about the PPP the
trans-pacific partnership are and is asking why does that a
democratic president like Obama would be supportive of that well I have to tell
you that when you look at what goes on in
washington and why so many people are contemptuous both
political parties have the political process in DC has a
lot to do with trade policies and i would tell you
that the president find not stop when
Republican President that was bill quite an on all of these issues all our trade policy’s there have
been Democratic president in republican
presidents and democratic congresses and republican congress’ working
together are and I think that’s a sad state of
affairs are my strong hope is that in terms of this PPP are we will have a number of democrats
and some republicans as well have the courage to stand up for working families to say don’t ship my job to vietnam art the allow me as the previous caller
indicated to know what is in wherever where the
product are is manufactured are don’t allow
corporations to overturn all legislation protecting the
environmental our fam to serve our country or what
states are doing so I hope we can while the congress I
will tell you that I think there is more proposition are to these trade
agreements that was previously the case because people can see the impact in terms of what the client
manufacturing they can see the impact in terms of the
race to the bottom and the lowering of wages for american workers are I will and my by comment by saying
that stuff I’ll ask yourself car there was a
statement made by somebody from General Electric RNG had abroad manufacturing and I think it was louisville kentucky
their data from hundreds of jobs with good news bad news is that the jobs that these
workers were being paid with sadness significantly less but
we’re all the workers were making and the reason the guy said that they
were able to expand in Kentucky and this is true not just in the people
of america is because when wages go down in america week quote unquote become more
competitive with China that’s called the race to the bottom and
that’s what these trade agreements have accomplished Morris in Long Beach
Calif listening KPFK on your senator Sanders Obama to send this arm I simply want the
bring to everyone’s attention that says to depart Bush tax cuts went into
play one trillion dollars this should make
the US Treasury each year does not make the US Treasury
and as a result the united states government doesn’t have any money to even enforce
the law for example done in West Virginia you have nine
counties they can I drinking your water and I
think that’s due to the fact that the government can enforce in the regulatory laws are on the books
my hope would be that the United States go back to the era
like eisenhower is tech school out giving the government
more money and also follow his advice regarding the military being curtailed
I’ll take my comments appear thank you thank you point in a very much
for that I’ll a powerful a.m. cauldron comment and I think you’re right on all counts I
was so I voted against the reauthorization of the Defense Department because among other
things several other things I put the budget
was much much too large are and a I’m a point I quoted from what I saw no
headset in his farewell address but that every dollar no time you play
that on the radio occasionally but yeah oh yeah yeah that every dollar spent on on the military is a dollar taken away
from you man need some children and so forth and so on when eisenhower said way back in
nineteen a sixty is is as true today as it was are it was program so hard you know I think that this issue over
the fence spending I his is one issue that we certainly have to
pay a lot more attention to are that we have %uh in recent years 15 minutes before the hour we’ll be
right back percent abrasives you’re listening to but Tom Hartman
program visit Thom Hartmann dot com for audio
and video archive major general brings website centers
that senate dot got signed up for the bernie funds welcome back below 120 call it on lobby morris also asked me about taxes and tax
rates on the rise in our support again he
makes are very appropriate point one out of four corporations do not pay
any federal taxes today collectively corporations corporate
taxes are significantly less than they used to be are probably a
while we did repeal bush’s tax breaks for the top one
percent we did not repealed up for our wealthier people are and morris’s point is that all when you talk about the deficit you talk
about the budget HP factors but just what you spend which is what republicans talk
about but the other part was how much revenue com yen and in fact Morse is quite right we are losing
substantial sums of money by retaining bush’s tax breaks for the
wealthy and we should repeal to I’ll see here Roberts in bra Burton Ironwood Michigan
watching free speech TV on the dish satellite network you’re on
the air center centers Haltom the senator Sanders time a ruthless kinda similar to last couple
questions I was wanna ask with these programs carpentry we won in
a few weeks to when the bailouts and subsidies to corporations a bernie do you feel
that this is all corporate welfare and is there a way that we can possibly shameless corporations into
paying their fair share I think there is Robert arm I think the American people are profoundly disgusted and sick and
tired %uh agreed that they have seen from wall
street and corporate america are we just had an example are right now in in in the state of
Washington we’re borrowing a very profitable corporations has threatened that if our workers there do not take a
reduction in their pension program they’re gonna move out of state
time after time after time workers are being confronted with the choice about giving up health
care benefits although wages of the company’s threatening to move to
China or to mexico our wall street which was
bailed out by the middle class and working families in this country yes now enjoying record-breaking profits and then they send people to washington
DC the Caldwell just like that we could we Wall Street
executives could do to retirement benefits we could use salaries we think
he got social security medicare admittedly that’s good for the country
of the american people sick and tired of corporate welfare are they sick Empire the are the growing
gap between the very very rich and everybody else are they sick and
tired a billionaire’s putting money into the political process
to help are destroy the American middle class I
think the American people on stickam title at and we’ve just got to educate we have
got to organize we’ve got to demand that people we send to Washington or the
state legislature spots taken up for the endangered middle class and
working families for people really struggling and have the guts to
take on the big money interests are whose greed is helping to destroy
are the american economy now we just have about 20 seconds I I
frequently say it’s not the Bush tax cuts when the way but it’s the reagan
tax cuts your thoughts on well I mean or obviously this ideology a you know far-off big-time are with
reagan and and what pushed it is part of a continuation
of what break-the-mold senator Bernie Sanders will be right
back with it more question troubled what a match on our roads our brunch
with Bernie are senator Bernie Sanders on the line taking your calls David in
mounds oklahoma you’re on the air senator Sanders well thank you tom led to talk to you
innocent I as a progressive in oklahoma this get
back to this portable still here my wife and I signed up on for CiCi’s I’m gonna be sixty-five
Morgan on medicare in these in Table she had to sign up on
this in which an affordable health care
program and we take the play the planet is the I’m gonna have to take 300 also
passed my wife is is a a fairly healthy she’s sixteen-years-old but want we want
to the doctor she went to the doctors are Cisco in the it take for their it she wanted to
do some more test in the insurance will not pay for nothin other in preteen healthcare every time we get that we have to go to
the doctor for that she wants to build tests for if it’s not pretty we have to pay up to three thousand dollars before that for the insurance page any plans in heat is I just can’t afford it on a
twist scheme to yes some missed a basket thank you let me just say this there was obviously
on I’m not familiar with the program in oklahoma that your wife
selected sounds to me like you probably have one with the a high deductible may be less expensive
than some other programs arm to my view are I voted for the Affordable Care Act
are and I think it is a step forward in terms of ending arm this absurdity of
pre-existing conditions makes it easier for young people to stay
on their parents insurance program are we have significantly expanded
Medicaid to people what a wise would not be
eligible for Medicaid I work very hard to expand community health centers all
over this country and in the number of instances people
are going to get better quality health care at lower cost that they
otherwise or what have been able to get but having
said all that I think we have got to go further I
think actually I’m camera subcommittee which deals with these actions and ask a very simple question is why we
are the only nation on earth that doesn’t guarantee health care or
people as a right and what we end up spending almost twice
as much per person on health care the people about the nation’s whose
outcomes of a vessel what I’m saying to you david is there is
Williams of different programs are you a wonderful Oklahoma somebody why want to
promote and I think what we have to do is is third i’m glad that you could be
eligible for Medicare I think that what we have to do just take the concept
of medicare and expanded to everybody in this country I think if
you’re talking about cost-effective quality health care medicare force
single-payer system so that the people in oklahoma cutting the same health care’s with
people mark and I think we can provide that health care in a lot global possible we r presently doing are
because right now are the private insurance companies have
enormous power over the process for their goal is not cost-effective quality care to
make an as much money as they can’t stop I would be more
responsible Dion in Waterford works New Jersey watching on our YouTube
channel you’re on your senator Sanders hello senator Sanders first of all I
want to thank you for giving a voice to the people who can afford to buy one I my question is regarding the
trans-pacific partnership and with the current issue with
unemployment in everything and the extension being an issue now
considering a transpacific partnership is basically nafta on steroids isn’t this just going
to be a huge problem down the line %uh the other I I tend to agree with you
know I took this is in fact or if you know it’s a trade agreement are between twelve countries are which represents thirty 8 percent of the
entire global economy also this is a huge huge trade agreement and I have the same
concerns and even more with this particular agreement a because
of its size be because it has been negotiated virtually in secret see because to give
in enormous powers I love preparations awful national governments and local
governments all over the world so I worry very much like this is an
agreement with are by the local leading corporations of the world
article will benefit them and I think will be continuation of the policy of driving are the wages down in the United States continuing this race to the bottom which
has been so awful to our comics or share your concerns
said the is center where two minutes into the
caller you wanna but one walk okay Sydney in Nepal like Louisiana you’re on
the air center centers mister surrenders now an arc of the
Libyan racist when you give maybe a 1 percent raise on my twelve thousand
dollars S 120 dollars a year and a man making a hundred
thousand dollars at the top and the pay scale for the
government is getting a thousand dollars now
they’re the house the living God thousand dollars are 120 dollars well are in the rooms are social security
guard 1.25 percent increase which I think underestimate I’ll the purchasing the Santa and the
inflation that seniors have experience and what are the things
that we are trying to do is not only prevent caught a Sydney to Social Security and Medicare
and Medicaid but the come up with an index that
adequately reflect are inflation in terms of the purchasing policies practices of thing so we want
to make sure do you get more what did I do want to tell you serbia
may complain and a white that the 1.5 percent colour is
inadequate we have to fight very very hard I had to
rally the american people to make sure that social security was not caught medicare was not caught medicate was not
cut so we’re gonna work hard. are to come up
with a fair way to bring forth are and determine what a
clever should be care I love we gotta search area of fifteen seconds okay I
will let me just the a computer program today plaque in
cold water colours are wishing everybody a happy new year
and to or tell everybody there are some huge
issues coming before the congress people have got to be involved we gotta
get on the phone like us by emailing and I got a spot making this congress
worker for at work for the middle class of this country and not
just the top a one-percent bernie thank you for continuing Lee
continually reminding us of the importance of hacktivism it is in so great thanks and thanks so

Polakfury of course promotes Libertarianism, but the Libertarians are basically the handmaidens of the billionaires. Libertarian hands off business philosophies fall right in step with what the super rich want. You want the corporations to walk all over you? Vote Libertarian.
