Hey guys it is Barry here welcome to my virgin
kitchen. Alright Boston, oh he wants to get down the smells in this kitchen are incredible
today. Today I am showing you how to make a cauliflower
steak, that is right a steak of cauliflower. I cannot tell you how amazing it tastes in
fact there is a place right there I will have some right now.
It is so incredible we have charred the tops and bottoms and then roasted it in the oven
until super soft. Super good, if you want to have a go hit pause on the video now write
the ingredients down here is an important message.
A bit of news, a lot of you have been saying where is the studio, well unfortunately the
studio has just not worked out for a variety of reasons. It took me 3 times the amount
of time it would to do a video with Phoebe so I am ripping out the kitchen in here and
bringing the studio back to my house. I have so many videos in the bag you probably
will not notice it and hopefully in a few weeks time the studio should appear here hopefully.
There are no problems with it its just being efficient and making this guy happy.
Dude I am going to put you down nobody wants to see your bum. Well some of you do. Anyhow
to make the cauliflower steak first up grab a mixing bowl and pour in the olive oil. Then
also grab lime juice and a lemon you can mix that up as much as you like.
Try not to get any lemon pip in there I did that nevermind and also a chopped garlic clove.
Push that in whisk it together and then leave to one side it is going to help baste, I love
that word, it is all about that baste, about that baste, nope, baste our cauliflower.
Speaking of the cauliflower grab the head, that sounds quite medieval grab the head and
just rip off the outer green leaves on the cauliflower try to get as many of those off
as you can. The core of the cauliflower is what will hold
it together kind of like when you are chopping an onion.
Get it as neat as you can around there and then level it off so that your cauliflower
stands upright. With it upright take a cut through the middle
of the cauliflower straight through the bottom about inch strips there to create the steaks.
Each cauliflower will make enough to make 4 of 5 steaks obviously of various sizes so
ratio that up as many as you like but I have just gone for 2 today.
What I did then was brush the baste on both sides of the steak and then added the paprika,
some good quality salt and the zest. Add as much as you like.
We are cooking this two ways you could just whack it in the griddle pan and it will be
quite firm and crispy in the middle but we are going to completely caramelise ours so
get a nice hot griddle pan and place the steak in there one at a time around 6 minutes either
side, while it is in there you can do your seasoning either side too.
Exactly the same steps, flip it over for another 5 or 6 minutes to cook through. I placed mine
into a baking tray so this is how we cook it through to the middle so if your strips
are thick you may want to do this to make it super soft.
Both of my steaks are in there, put some foil on and whack in the oven for a good 25 minutes
to completely soften. You can cook it a little longer just to make sure it is softened through
and it will caramelise. When you take it out that flavour will be
absolutely incredible so whack it down on a plate, little bit of coriander on there
maybe some lime or lemon zest, whatever you need to do to bring some flavour out.
It is so full of flavour though, it is amazing. Yeah it is proper awesome so smokey and zingy

    This looks amazing! Do you think it would work to spray the cauliflower with fry lite and then add seasoning? I'm doing Slimming World and I'd rather not use all that oil if possible!

    My mom dips the cauliflower into a stirred egg and then puts it in a pan and fries it. That's also very delicious!

    I'm a vegetarian, but cauliflower is my Room 101. But, have to admit that you make it look tempting even so. As a Hampshire born lass who grew up in Teesside and now living in Northumberland, I would love to see you tackle a traditional North East dish I grew up eating a lot of. It's called Panackalty, a Geordie take on Lancashire hot pot, though it's either made with sausages, or if money's tight (which it frequently was growing up) corned beef can be used instead.

They usually eat cauliflower very boring: boiled cauliflower with no spices, corn starch paste/sauce (no spices either, just water and starch boiled together), boiled potatoes, a meatball and some gravy. That's not how to eat cauliflower! Thank you for this recipe!

    i don't find the arguments very reasonable. Lovely Barry just spend allot of time, effort and probably a good amount of money in this studio and what huh? it doesn't work. Make it work Barry don't throw it away because your dog doesn't feel comfortable. But i must say i didn't find the studio design very good, who uses a electronic cooker for a youtube cooking channel? Good that you found a solution that fits, but what a pity.ย

    I love to surprise my family with fresh vegetables that actually taste good! I've always hated vegetables but I realized it's because all i've ever had are boring, bland steamed ones! I've now tried to make vegetables more flavorful and more enjoyable to eat. My favorite simple thing to do is roast chopped brussels sprouts in the oven with some olive oil, pepper, salt, and chopped garlic! I do the same with asparagus, and add in a little Parmesan cheese to those! So good and definitely not bland.

    If you don't eat anything else with the cauliflower…. you should eat the whole cauliflower. It's probably not even 300 calories. I do it once in a while, but not yet in the cauliflower steak style. Paprika… really. Maybe this weekend.

    This was delicious. brushed cauliflower with olive oil. sprinkle with paprika. seared cauliflower in a cast iron pan. add additional oil if need. cook 45 mins. set oven 425 and place uncovered cast iron pan in oven. flip cauliflower steak half way through. remove and sprinkle with salt. yummy.
